Find the Qibla direction

The bearing follows the great-circle path from your position to the Kaaba. Your position stays in the browser.

City search uses the Open-Meteo geocoding service.

Was this tool useful?

How does this tool work?

Calculate the geodesic bearing to the Kaaba from any coordinates. Everything runs locally and browser geolocation is optional.

The tool starts from your latitude and longitude, provided manually, through a city search, or by optional browser geolocation. It then applies a great-circle geodesic calculation between your position and the coordinates of the Kaaba in Makkah. The result is the initial bearing measured from true north, displayed in degrees together with a cardinal reference. The calculation runs locally in your browser, so your position does not need to be sent to a server and can be reset whenever you want.

How to use this tool

  1. Set your position

Use browser geolocation or enter latitude and longitude.

  2. Calculate the bearing

The engine computes the initial great-circle bearing to the Kaaba.

  3. Orient yourself

Use the angle from true north and the cardinal direction as references.

Use cases

Find Qibla while travelling

Determine the direction to the Kaaba from a city or coordinates when travelling or staying in an unfamiliar place.

Check an existing orientation

Compare an existing direction with a geodesic bearing expressed in degrees clockwise from true north.

Use precise coordinates

Enter latitude and longitude directly when an exact position is more useful than selecting a nearby city.

Tips and best practices

  • The result is referenced to true north, not magnetic north.
  • A physical device compass may need calibration.
  • Geolocation is neither stored nor sent.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the direction not a straight map line?

On a sphere, the shortest path follows a great circle. The initial bearing therefore depends on your location and may look different on a flat map projection.

Which Kaaba position is used?

The calculation uses the central coordinates of the Kaaba in Makkah as the destination for the geodesic calculation.

Is my location sent anywhere?

No. Your coordinates are used locally in the browser to calculate the bearing and are not sent by this tool.
