Calculation details

Why use this tool?

Use this calculator to turn real project measurements into a practical estimate for packs, underlay and skirting. The calculation stays local in your browser and keeps the assumptions visible so you can replace defaults with product or supplier data.

100% local and secure

Your data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.

Fonctionnement

How does this tool work?

Start with the real dimensions, area or other geometric values for the project. The engine normalizes the inputs before applying the calculation so units and intermediate quantities remain consistent.

Adjust the project-specific assumptions such as allowance, product format, coverage, density, spacing or packaging. These settings deliberately remain editable because manufacturer and site values take priority over generic defaults.

The calculator separates the theoretical requirement from the quantity that can actually be purchased. When materials are sold in whole bags, boxes, packs, rolls or pallets, the purchase quantity is rounded upward and the resulting surplus remains visible.

Review the result together with the product documentation and project requirements. The tool estimates quantities and geometry; it does not replace structural design, regulatory checks or manufacturer installation instructions.

Use cases

Prepare a material order

Convert site measurements into a quantity that can be compared directly with the packaging or supply format offered by a merchant.

Compare project assumptions

Change dimensions, allowance or product data to see immediately how the required quantity and expected surplus change.

Check a manual estimate

Use the detailed intermediate results to verify a hand calculation before buying materials or starting the work.

Guide

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Measure the project

Enter the actual dimensions or known project values.

  2. 2

    Adjust the assumptions

Replace generic allowances and product values with the data relevant to the job.

  3. 3

    Review the order

Check theoretical need, purchasable quantity and any surplus before buying.

Tips and best practices

  • Replace default technical values with the manufacturer or supplier figures as soon as the exact product is known.
  • Keep the geometric requirement and the purchasing allowance separate so the same safety margin is not applied twice.
  • Round only at the purchasing stage unless the material or construction method specifically requires an earlier whole-unit count.

Frequently asked questions

Are the results exact for every project?

No. They are estimates based on the values entered. Site conditions, installation method, product packaging and manufacturer requirements can change the final quantity.

Should I keep the default values?

Use them as starting points only. When a product provides coverage, density, yield, spacing or packaging data, those values should be used instead.

Does this calculator replace professional design?

No. It helps with quantities and geometry but does not replace structural calculations, regulations, technical specifications or professional advice where those are required.
