Trim an audio file: extract or keep only one section

Keep a precise interval from MP3, WAV or another audio file locally and use the result in a pipeline.

Recordings often contain silence, mistakes or sections you do not need. Trimming keeps only a selected time interval without requiring a full editing suite.

Trimming and conversion are different

Conversion changes encoding; trimming changes the time range. They can be combined, but they solve different problems.

Open Audio trimmer, import the file and set the start and end of the section to keep. Processing stays local. The main Audio guide also covers conversion, volume and merging.

Typical uses include removing silence, isolating a passage, preparing a short clip or cleaning a take before assembly. If the result is too quiet, continue with audio volume adjustment.

Trim before or after conversion?

When a large section will be removed, trimming early means later steps process less data. A useful chain is:

Import → Trim → Adjust volume → Convert to final format → Download

Key point

Trimming reduces the useful duration. Placing it early in a pipeline can also reduce unnecessary processing.
