How does this tool work?
Add six subject grades, TOK and Extended Essay core points, then check the main International Baccalaureate Diploma requirements. The IB Diploma Programme combines six subjects graded from 1 to 7 with up to 3 additional points from theory of knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay.
The six subjects are graded from 1 to 7, so up to 42 points. Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay are graded from A to E and combined in a matrix worth up to 3 points: A and A give 3 points, B and C give 2, and an E in either one means a fail. The maximum total is therefore 45.
The tool then checks the official award conditions: at least 24 points, CAS completed, no grade 1, no more than two grade 2s or three grades of 3 or below, at least 12 points at higher level (HL) and 9 at standard level (SL).

Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum IB Diploma score?
The maximum is 45 points: 42 from six subjects plus up to 3 core points from TOK and the Extended Essay.
Does 24 points automatically mean a pass?
No. Candidates must also meet the other passing criteria, including CAS and the HL/SL minimum requirements.
Do HL subjects count more than SL subjects?
No. Each subject contributes between 1 and 7 points to the total regardless of level.
How are the TOK and Extended Essay bonus points worked out?
The two grades from A to E are combined in a matrix: A and A give 3 points, A and C or B and B give 2, C and C give 1. An E in TOK or the Extended Essay fails the diploma, whatever the total.
What are the IB Diploma failing conditions?
The diploma is not awarded with fewer than 24 points, without CAS, with a grade 1, with three or more grade 2s, with four or more grades of 3 or below, with an E in TOK or the Extended Essay, with fewer than 12 HL points or fewer than 9 SL points.
What happens with four higher level subjects?
All grades count towards the total, but only the three best HL grades are used for the 12-point higher level condition. The fourth then counts as a standard level subject.
What is CAS?
Creativity, activity, service: a programme of activities followed over two years. It carries no points but must be completed to receive the diploma.
