How does this tool work?
Convert an MP3 file to PCM WAV directly in your browser when you need an uncompressed format for editing, audio software or another processing chain.
The engine decodes the MP3 stream and writes it into a new WAV container as 16-bit PCM. The resulting file is usually much larger. This conversion can improve workflow compatibility, but it cannot recreate detail that was already discarded by the original MP3 compression. This page locks output to 16-bit PCM WAV and accepts .mp3 filenames, without offering the general converter’s other destinations. Native decoding may resample to the Web Audio context rate; FFmpeg is the fallback if decoding fails. Conversion cannot restore the signal that existed before MP3 compression. WAV is useful for editing software that expects PCM and for avoiding repeated MP3 generations between operations. Native encoding builds a minimal WAV header rather than copying ID3 tags or artwork. A larger decoded file therefore provides a different working format, not newly recovered detail.
How to use this tool
Choose the MP3 to decode
Import the .mp3 source and retain it for reference.
Prepare 16-bit WAV
Run native decoding, or FFmpeg fallback if needed.
Allow enough storage
Download the WAV with its larger PCM payload in mind.

Use cases
PCM editing
Open MP3 audio in software that requires uncompressed WAV.
Intermediate processing
Work in WAV between effects to avoid multiple MP3 generations.
Sample inspection
Prepare PCM for examining a decoded waveform.
Examples
A decoded mono minute
60 × 44,100 × 1 × 16 ÷ 8. Add the header; 44.1 kHz is an explicit calculation assumption.
Input
60 s, 44,100 Hz, 16-bit PCM, 1 channelResult
5,292,000 PCM bytesA decoded stereo minute
Payload depends on decoded sample count, not the original MP3 bitrate. Missing source information is not restored.
Input
60 s, 48,000 Hz, 16-bit PCM, 2 channelsResult
11,520,000 PCM bytesTips and best practices
- Do not judge fidelity solely by the WAV’s increased size.
- A 16-bit export does not replace a high-resolution studio source.
- After editing, create one final MP3 if delivery requires it.

Frequently asked questions
Does the WAV still contain MP3 compression?
The output stream is 16-bit PCM, but losses already present in the decoded sound remain.
Why is my WAV much larger?
PCM stores samples according to duration, rate, channels and resolution, without the MP3 stream’s compressed bitrate.
Are ID3 tags copied into WAV?
The native path writes a minimal header and does not transfer ID3 tags or artwork.
Is the resulting WAV better quality than my MP3?
This conversion avoids another lossy encoding step but cannot recover detail already removed by MP3. More bytes do not mean a closer match to the original uncompressed recording.
Can I choose a 24-bit WAV?
No. This conversion uses 16-bit PCM. The resulting rate depends on decoding and there is no 24-bit resolution control.
