This converter turns a pressure in pounds per square inch (psi) into kilopascals (kPa) and back: type a value in either field and the other updates instantly. It helps you read a vehicle tire placard, which often shows both units, decode a bicycle tire sidewall ("max 100 psi / 690 kPa"), or set up an air compressor and pneumatic tools.
The kilopascal is 1,000 pascals, the pascal being the SI unit of pressure (1 Pa = 1 N/m²). The psi is the pressure of one pound-force (4.4482216152605 N) on one square inch (0.00064516 m²): 1 psi = 6,894.757293168 Pa, or 6.894757 kPa. Conversely, 1 kPa ≈ 0.145038 psi.
To go from psi to kPa, multiply by 6.894757; to go from kPa to psi, multiply by 0.145038 (or divide by 6.894757). The result shows up in the other field on every keystroke.
Mental math: multiply psi by 7 and subtract about 1.5% (35 psi × 7 = 245, exact 241.3 kPa). For kPa to psi, divide by 100 to get bar, then multiply by 14.5: 240 kPa = 2.4 bar ≈ 34.8 psi.
Do not mix up kPa, bar and MPa: 100 kPa = 1 bar and 1,000 kPa = 1 MPa. An error by a factor of 10 or 100 is easy to make when reading a datasheet. Like bar, tire pressure is a gauge pressure (above the atmosphere), whereas 101.325 kPa is the standard absolute atmospheric pressure at sea level.
In the PSI field for a US gauge or placard, or in the kPa field for a metric value.
The second field shows the converted pressure; the swap button reverses the two units.
The table under the converter lists the most common tire and compressor pressures, in both directions.
The psi is tied to the pascal through the pound-force and the square inch.
kPa = psi × 6.894757
Factor rounded to the millionth from 6.894757293168.
psi = kPa ÷ 6.894757 ≈ kPa × 0.145038
The 0.145038 factor is the rounded inverse.
1 psi = 4.4482216 N ÷ 0.00064516 m² ≈ 6,894.757 Pa
1 lbf = 0.45359237 kg × 9.80665 m/s² and 1 in = 2.54 cm exactly.
Example: 32 psi = 32 × 6.894757 ≈ 220.6 kPa.
Make sense of a North American placard or manual, or apply a pressure given in kPa with a psi gauge.
Respect the minimum and maximum pressures printed on a tire sidewall, often in both psi and kPa.
Set a regulator or check the working pressure of a tool whose manual is in psi.
Convert a lab or atmospheric pressure from kPa to psi, and back.
35 × 6.894757 ≈ 241.32 kPa, which is why North American placards read "240 kPa, 35 psi".

101.35 kPaOne psi is 6.894757 kPa (6,894.757 Pa). The value follows from the pound-force and the inch defined by the 1959 international agreement.
35 psi is about 241.3 kPa (35 × 6.894757). Tire placards usually round it to 240 kPa.
Multiply kPa by 0.145038. For example, 220 kPa ≈ 31.9 psi and 300 kPa ≈ 43.5 psi.
Exactly a factor of 100: 1 bar = 100 kPa. A pressure of 2.4 bar is therefore 240 kPa, or about 34.8 psi.
Because 35 psi = 241.3 kPa, rounded to 240 kPa. Both values describe the same pressure to within 1%.
