How does this tool work?
This calculator computes a weighted grade average without assuming a particular education system. Each row can represent a test, assignment, oral exam or final exam. Labels and weights are editable, and the global grading scale can be set to 10, 20, 100 or any other positive value.
Each grade is multiplied by its weight, then the sum of these weighted points is divided by the sum of the weights entered. With 12 at weight 2 and 15 at weight 1, you get (24 + 15) ÷ 3 = 13. A row without a grade is ignored instead of counting as zero.
The grading scale is free: out of 20 by default, but also 10, 100 or any other total. The average is instantly converted to the other usual scales, and the target section works out the grade you need on the next test given its weight.

Tips and best practices
- Blank grades are not counted as zero.
- Decimal weights such as 0.5 or 1.5 are supported.
- The formula is sum(grade × weight) divided by the sum of the weights used.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the grade I need on my next assessment?
Enter your current grades, target average and the weight of the next assessment. The calculator returns the required grade and tells you when the target is already secured or cannot be reached with one grade.
How is a weighted grade average calculated?
Multiply each grade by its weight, add the results and divide by the sum of the weights. The calculator does this automatically.
Can I use decimal weights?
Yes. Values such as 0.5, 1.25 or 2.5 are supported.
Can I use a 10-point or 100-point scale?
Yes. Change the global grading scale and the calculator validates every grade against it.
Does a blank row count as zero?
No. A missing grade is ignored until you enter a value.
What is the difference between a simple and a weighted average?
A simple average adds the grades and divides by how many there are: each grade counts the same. A weighted average gives more weight to grades with a higher weight, such as an exam worth 3 against a quiz worth 1.
How do I convert an average out of 20 to a grade out of 10 or 100?
Divide by the original scale and multiply by the new one: 14/20 is 14 ÷ 20 × 10 = 7/10, or 70/100. The calculator shows these equivalents below your average.
