Fill and flatten a PDF form before sharing it

Interactive PDF forms can contain text fields, checkboxes and other controls. While those fields remain active, their values may still be editable. Flattening turns the completed form into a finalized representation.

When is flattening useful?

It is useful when a completed administrative, customer or internal form should be delivered as a finished copy. It is not appropriate when the recipient still needs to edit the fields; keep an interactive version in that case.

Check values before flattening

Review names, dates, amounts, checkboxes and optional fields first. Keep the original or an editable filled copy when future corrections may be needed.

Flattening is not security

Verify the downloaded PDF

Reopen the final file, preferably in another reader, and confirm that values, checkbox states and layout are preserved.
