Why use this tool?

Set usage restrictions on a PDF without requiring a password to open it. Choose printing, modification and extraction rights, then protect those permissions with an owner password.

100% local and secure

Your data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.

Smart processing

Process PDF documents easily with operations suited to their structure.

Supported formats

Imported PDF files and downloadable results depending on the selected operation.

Save time

Get a clean, ready-to-use result in seconds without installing software or configuring a complex workflow.

Fonctionnement

How does this tool work?

The PDF security engine uses qpdf through WebAssembly. It encrypts the document with AES-256 using an empty user password and the owner password you provide, then applies the selected permissions. The file can therefore open normally while exposing restrictions to PDF readers that honor these permissions.

Use cases

Limit printing

Allow low-resolution printing or disable it completely.

Limit modifications

Reserve full changes for the owner-password holder.

Block copying

Disable text and image extraction before distribution.

Tips and best practices

  • Keep the owner password: it is required to manage or remove the restrictions.
  • PDF permissions also depend on the viewing software respecting those restrictions.
  • To require a password when opening the file, use Protect PDF instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is the file sent to a server?

No. Processing takes place locally in your browser and your file never leaves your device.

Is the original file modified?

No. Bethemesh generates a new result and keeps your original file unchanged.

Can this operation be used in Workspace / Pipeline?

The logic is implemented through shared engine and transformation layers. The Workspace permissions module will be exposed once its secure owner-password field is connected.
