Comparing two PDFs tells you which pages changed between two versions of the same document: a renegotiated contract, a corrected plan, a reprinted brochure, a reviewed report. The tool compares how pages look rather than raw text, so it also spots a replaced image, a shifted table or a changed colour. Both files are analysed in your browser and a report appears straight away.
Each page of both documents is drawn as a low-resolution image (scale 0.55, about 40 dots per inch) and compared with the page with the same number in the other document. A pixel counts as different when the average gap between its red, green and blue components exceeds 24 out of 255, which ignores tiny anti-aliasing variations.
A page is declared different as soon as more than 0.25% of its sampled pixels have changed. Two pages of different sizes, or a page present in only one of the documents, count as entirely different (100%).
The report gives each PDF’s page count, the list of changed pages, the average visual difference — the mean of the percentages of all pages — and whether the documents are visually identical. Pages are compared by position: a page inserted at the start shifts all the following ones, which will then show as changed.

Pages are rendered and compared in pairs in the browser.
Note the numbers of the changed pages, then open them side by side to see the details.

Make sure only the corrected pages changed between two proofs of a brochure.
Confirm that a document regenerated by some software is identical to the previous version.
The average is calculated over the 11 positions: (3.2% + 100%) ÷ 11 ≈ 9.38%. The nine unchanged pages count as 0%.
Input
v1.pdf with 10 pages and v2.pdf with 11 pages; page 4 differs on 3.2% of pixels, page 11 only exists in v2Result
Changed pages: 4, 11; average visual difference: 9.38%; visually identical documents: NoAt how pages look. It also catches changes in images, colours or layout, but does not list the words that changed.
It is the mean, over all page positions, of the percentage of differing pixels. A page missing from one document counts as 100%.
Pages are compared by number. An insertion shifts the following numbers, so each page is then compared with a different page.
Yes, if less than 0.25% of the sampled pixels change at about 40 dpi, a moved comma for instance. For a fine check, compare the text too.
Yes, but two scans of the same paper always differ slightly (framing, brightness); the report may flag every page.
No. Rendering and comparing the pages happen in your browser.
