How does this tool work?
Adding a signature to a PDF lets you sign a rental agreement, a quote, a permission form or an order without printing or scanning it. You draw your signature with a mouse, finger or stylus, or import an image of a signature you have already scanned, then place it exactly on the line provided. The document and your signature stay in your browser.
Two methods are offered. Draw signature opens an area where you sign directly, then Add signature places it on the page. Import signature accepts a PNG or JPEG image, ideally a PNG with a transparent background obtained by photographing or scanning your signature on white paper.
The signature becomes an element you move, resize and tilt on the page shown; switch pages with the thumbnails to sign elsewhere or initial several pages. On download, it is built into the page as an image.
It is a digitised handwritten signature, not a cryptographic electronic signature: it carries no certificate, timestamp or proof of identity. It suits everyday exchanges where a signed copy is enough; for a document requiring an advanced or qualified electronic signature under the eIDAS regulation, use a trust service provider.
How to use this tool

- Sign on white paper with a black felt-tip pen and photograph it straight on to get a clean image to import.
- Add the date and place next to it with Add text to a PDF if the document asks for them.
- Check with the recipient that a digitised handwritten signature is enough for them.
Frequently asked questions
Is this signature legally valid?
It has the value of a handwritten signature reproduced on a copy: enough for many everyday exchanges, but it is not an advanced or qualified electronic signature under the eIDAS regulation.
Is my signature stored or sent anywhere?
No. It is drawn or imported in your browser and built into the PDF; Bethemesh neither stores nor transmits it.
Which image formats can I import?
PNG and JPEG. A PNG with a transparent background gives the cleanest result, with no white rectangle around the stroke.
Can I sign in several places?
Yes. Insert the signature as many times as needed, on one or several pages, at a different size for each spot.
Can I sign with my finger on a phone?
Yes. The signing area accepts finger, stylus and mouse.
Can the signed document be changed afterwards?
The signature is built into the page as an image. To discourage later edits, send the document in a frozen format or protect it.
