How does this tool work?

A PDF’s metadata is the information stored in its properties: title, author, subject, keywords, original software. The title often appears in the browser tab and in search results instead of the file name, and the author field can reveal a name you would rather not share. This tool lets you fill these fields in properly or wipe them all, directly in your browser.

The Action menu offers two modes. Edit metadata replaces the title, author, subject and keywords with the values you enter; keywords are separated by commas. A field left empty is cleared in the PDF, so enter every value you want to keep.

Remove metadata erases the title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer. In both modes the tool also removes the XMP stream, a second copy of the metadata that many readers check first: without this step, an old title could keep showing.

Page content is not changed. Technical properties such as creation dates or page count cannot be edited here; Analyze PDF information lets you view them.

How to use this tool

  1. Import the PDF

    Choose the document whose properties you want to change or erase.

  2. Choose the action

    Select Edit and fill in title, author, subject and keywords, or select Remove.

  3. Download the updated PDF

    Check the result in your PDF reader’s document properties.

Tips and best practices

  • A clear title improves how the PDF appears in a browser tab and in search results.
  • For a more thorough clean-up before publishing (scripts, attachments), use Sanitize a PDF.
  • If the file is password-protected, unlock it first: its properties cannot be rewritten otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

Which fields can I change?

Title, author, subject and keywords. Creator and producer are only erased in Remove mode.

What happens if I leave a field empty in Edit mode?

It is cleared in the PDF. Copy in any existing values you want to keep.

Why remove the XMP stream too?

Many readers read XMP metadata first. Leaving it in place could show an old title or keep an author name you thought was gone.

Does metadata affect search ranking?

Search engines may use the title to display a PDF in their results; keywords, on the other hand, have little effect.

Does the document content change?

No. Only the properties are rewritten; pages, text and images stay the same.

Is the file sent to a server?

No. Reading and rewriting the properties happen in your browser.
